Depression is a serious medical condition which requires appropriate care and attention. If you notice that you or a loved one are experiencing two or more of the below symptoms simultaneously for longer then 2 weeks then you may be depressed.
Symptoms of Depression:
- Isolation & Withdrawal
- Decrease in Interest or Pleasure
- Irritability & Agitation
- Lack of Energy/Motivation
- Anxiety & Stress
- Changes in Sleeping/Eating Habits
- Tearfulness & Sadness
- Feelings of Hopelessness/Helplessness
- Grief & Loss
- Excessive Guilt or Worry
Depression can be triggered by biological, medical, and situational factors. Below are a few examples of each:
Biological Factors:
- Unbalanced Brain Chemistry
- Family History
Medical Factors:
Illness: Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, Alzheimer’s Disease, Heart Disease, etc.
- Medication Side Effect
- Decline in Health
- Major Surgery
Situational Factors:
- Death of a Love One- Relocation
- Retirement
- Separation/Divorce
- Loss of Social Support
